HMO (Health Maintenance Organization)

An HMO is the broadest type of health insurance coverage available. HMO plans operate on a referral basis by your primary care physician. The deductible is typically low and often there is no coinsurance. Normally, an HMO has a co-pay for most services. We say this is the most comprehensive coverage because the co-pay covers the services that the physician or lab charges.
